I personally think an improved version of the current system is the way to go.
Multiple choice, while it makes the game simpler it also detracts from "the thrill of the chase".
I would rather xmoon's resources were spent on improving and elaborating on the AI style system.

Having said that. Once the modding tools/version is ready the community will be able to create what they desire.

I agree with KotLPL, the whole appeal to XSP is that it's not just another game similar to what's already out there. Let the developers work these things out rather then reverting to standard gameplay elements we all know and expect.

Multiple choice would be most unpleasant, as my character would say things in ways that I probably wouldn't say, even if it were just the usage of the word "Dick" opposed to "Cock" lol, i'd want to have the choice... and since i'm use to playing Online RPGs, I'm use to typing things in, as well. I can imagine this system being a little tedious for someone who doesn't play games that involve a lot of typing.

Their system currently understands a pretty wide range of statements, and i'm pretty satisfied with where it is, and where i believe its headed, which is why this thread isn't about how users communicate with NPCs :D but instead I was referring to the exact opposite. How NPCs communicate with the user <---

If they want to separate this game from the others, they'll definitely keep the chat system. I enjoy it, but I dont know how it sits with the majority of users.

Perhaps option to select from list or write own? While writing is nice, it's pretty stiff. Too often it just turns into spamming one word comments and hoping some of them gets the wanted result =/

Multiple choice encourages experimentation, and that makes the whole experience more fun. You wonder what is possible.

Between multiple choice and typing personal responses that are parsed well, pre-made multiple choices would be a much more limited experience. Then again I'd be leery of anything like a "Zork" type parsing and more comfy along the lines of some real Turing Test passable AI. I'd hate for my dick to get eaten by a Grue.

I agree actually, that's what I meant to say. For some reason my english skills fall apart on this forum on a semi-regular basis.
