Hello. I'm new to this and I've read a bit of the wiki on modding. I read I need Maya but I don't want to pay 100 plus dollars a month just to mod this game. Am I mistaken? Is Maya free? If not does such a thing exist I can use.

Blender is probably the best free modeling software out there. Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to import .ma files into blender. If there was a specific .ma file you needed, I could always export it as a .fbx for you (those should work in blender).
Your other option would be to look for "alternative" means of acquiring Maya.

Thanks for the quick responses ! I'll try filling out that academic form but I don't know that I want to torrent Maya at the risk of messing up my computer with spyware.

"Download for free" sites mostly do redirect you. You can trust a private tracker. Or to be sure just click on "magnet link" when there is one, otherwise avoid (so called "download" buttons may get you to other pages).

I never had trouble with cracks. The antivirus does block them sometimes but not because they are mallware but because they are reported as keygens or cracks. On the other hand when I use torrents I go only for private trackers where the torrents containing malware are reported and deleted in time.

You'd be better off getting the student licence for Maya. For one thing it gives you access to a whole lot of tutorials and stuff. It's a legit copy of the program, and you can update it. The only thing you can't do is use your creations for commercial gain.
