I think this is how ill do combat
2 classes of units
Worker - gathers resources
Warrior - helps in battle
Each settlement you own will have workers and warriors assigned to it
Workers will gather so much per day
If someone attacks your settlement it will be auto defended by the warriors
While id love to have a bunch of minions following the player and having an epic battle, This game was not built for that

So the player will have minions assigned to them and when in combat it will be applied
Combat will be something like this
2 types of combat
large scaleEach x amount of time you will deal damage to the enemy's and they deal damage to you
damage - defence = total damage
So armies vs armies
player and henchmenEach x amount of time based on weapons and such
Slower weapons slower attack speed
Damage - defence = total damage
Total damage - evade and block etc
Player will be able to recruit henchmen or henchwoman for their adventures
They will help out in large scale battles but be the only ones there in your adventures
You do not take your army to go shopping or explore places
Good vs Evil and the choices
Example 1
You go to a town and decide that the locals are just to much trouble and decide to kill them all ( your choice)
Your power increases
You add your own workers and warriors and continue on your merry way
example 2
You go to a town and decide that the locals can live
You add your own workers and warriors but then a local comes up and says he knows of a legendary smith who can forge great weapons
You go and get the smith (dragged away in a bag or walking his choice) now you get great weapons
This can i even call it a mod? will be full of choices like this and some might be random
