Any word on release date? It seems this project has been dormant for a quite along time.

@darker horizons

Next release is far from finished.

Project is very much alive but because of development there is a radio silence.

I understand that development is top priority, and that should probably always be the case.
However radio silence is probably a bad idea. @darker horizons isn't the first nor the last person to worry about the state of the project. I myself have also been a bit worried.

Even if you just write like a single sentence every month, anything is better than complete silence... Of course this is just my opinion, and whether or not you listen to it is up to you.

PS. Can't wait for the next update, just take your time, and make it an update worth the wait! :D

Radio silence is perhaps a bit of an overstatement. E.g.:

I'm not worried about progress at all, but it is true, there isn't many updates. Many people would probably want something like a dedicated thread that lists the things which are being worked on for the next version.

I can see why some people want that. I'd like it as well but I know me, and when i'm working on something it's all in my head and in parts, some in files and notes that look like insane scribbles of a madman to anyone else.. But to me It's my outline and pieces of my completed plan that I hop around and piece together seeing where I can add and what needs to be improved on or removed entirely. I work as if i'm sculpting not in the typical structured extroverted or orginized fashion.
Adding the stress of outlining or even explaining my process to other people throws me off and gives me anxiety from the expectations and the added implied deadline. I'm much more focused and productive if i'm left to my introverted self sufficient ways. Things get done and when i'm confident they are as I envisioned or better I will report my full project. Typically i show nothing until it's solid and fired.
I think Xmoon is a group of guys that work like me. Weird but effective. :D

Thanks for the link xpadmin, that sounds awesome!
And yes Nautica, I too get like that sometimes when I work on something, so I DO understand it! But a dedicated thread like riftporn said, is something that could be really handy, hell for all I care it is locked so no one else can post in it and it is just a post from our friendly neighbourhood admin like... once a month just to let people know how things are going.
But a thread would also be good because unless xpadmin had linked that post, I would have probably never found it because I don't read EVERY thread on the forum.

I realized that, as someone not working on this project, my claim that "How hard can it be to give us a small update every once in a while" is of course based on nothing, and it is very possible that there just isn't time or whatever, and that's fine too. I'm just kinda craving for a sign of life I suppose.

Exactly why I said "I'm not worried about progress" - if you don't hear anything from software devs it usually means they on a very productive run. You better don't disturb. Don't even offer coffee. Make sure they get no calls from other people, too.

I kinda agree with the "more communication" side of this.

A little bit, however small amount of time, spend on keeping your community up to date, in a fixed spot they know where to find is extremely important.

It's like a snowball that benefits everybody. Get people interested, keep people interested, attract even more people, more sales, more money, more development... It goes hand in hand, they are not separate things.

A development team is more than just coders and designers, sales and marketing is the part that feeds, provides resources and time. More attention = more money = (hopefully) a better product in a shorter time. And open communication and somebody "out there" on the front-line also helps keeping an eye on other products. So you don't get overtaken by some big company making your product irrelevant. You have the lead, make sure you keep it.

Tunnel vision has been the death of many a projects.

PS: I'm aware I might sound a bit patronizing in my post, it's all in good will, so sorry if it comes across as being too ...
