Three people are working on the game. I am working full-time on it. The others part-time (and in weekends).
I do most of the coding and some modeling. The others also the modeling, scripting etc..
We also have some freelancers for modeling, gui design, website, etc.
We tried hiring extra people, but it is hard to get good people that are willing to work for relatively low fees.
A lot of the good ones are already working for larger game studio's. Also working on adult games is also not every one's cup of tea.
Also most people are experienced in a specific game engine (most in Unity).
So it is not only an issue of money. The fact that Unreal 4 now is available for very low price also shows that competing against Unity is
pretty difficult for them. Most people are not building game engines, but using them. And the low priced Unity got a lot of people starting with that.
Building a new engine was the only option for us because the elements like full body fluid collision, undressing, natural language AI were not available (in other engines) when we started. Now new engine could have more of those features. So I will investigate if adding XStoryPlayer physics and AI to for example Unreal 4 will be possible in a later stage. It will make hiring people easier. For the X Moon University this could be an option.
But for now we will keep building XStoryPlayer in our custom engine,
even though that regrettably takes more time.
Games like
Wicked Paradise that planned to create a game using OR and Unreal 4 have not been released (will they be?).
Games like
3DXChat are nice (uses Unity Engine), but very different from XStoryPlayer (nice graphics, but less interaction with character body).
So we will also release XStoryPlayer 4.0 in the current engine. If XStoryPlayer is more widely used by then, hopefully we have the momentum to make a new larger step (by for example adding the XStoryPlayer features to another engine to be able to create a larger worlds).
