Have I found a resolution anomaly in the game or am I seeing things. While working on Monica skin textures I noticed that upgrading the resolution from 2K to 4K didn’t increase the resolution in the game. The game excepts the texture at 4K but it doesn’t look any better. aacewin came to the same conclusion.

Trying to follow the tutorial I managed to get the new character to replace the template character. To my eye the new characters image resolution was really good even at 2K so I did some tests. I placed some tattoos on the skin texture in order to make it easier to see the difference.

Is it my imagination or does 4K Monica look no better than 2K test character. Monica being in the middle. Look at the tattoo, to me it’s much sharper on the test character on the right.

Here’s another example, if you look at the lines defining the sailor girl’s hair it’s definitely sharper on the new character even though in this example, the image is bigger and therefore should not look better.

I’ve also included a comparison of three different resolutions on the new character.

@xpadmin My questions are.

Is the game somehow restricting the resolution in the dungeon and not in the test room. I don’t think it’s just my setup because aacewin found the same result.

If it is, is it something I can change or does the game require an upgrade. My trace is below.

D3D_ADAPTER_DESCRIPTION: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
D3D_ADAPTER_VERSION: 9.18.13.4052

D3DMULTISAMPLE_2_SAMPLES: 8,8
D3D_MAX_TEXTURE_BLEND_STAGES: 8
D3D_MAX_SIMULTANEOUS_TEXTURES: 8
D3D_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE: 8192,8192
D3D_PIXELSHADER_VERSION: 3.0
D3D_VERTEXSHADER_VERSION: 3.0

hummm indeed ...

I'll do some tests with my clothes to see if it's related to "working on new files" or not.
Maybe our filemaker has been upgraded since in game models were packed in 3.0 release

New version 3.1 will have support for higher resolution than 2k. In the skin plugin you can set the desired resolution that is used.

@laissemoirire thank you for your reply. I’ll take it, that you can see it too.
@xpadmin that’s fantastic, that makes me even more anxious to get the new version. :D

tested with the crop top mesh. 4k works with the files I uploaded yesterday -> nothing configured for 4k anywhere.

so it's not the engine, it's how the model is made by filemaker.. this is why the test model works with 4k, and not the original model.
I see no other explanation
